About Oosterkerk

The Oosterkerk or Sint-Antonius church in Hoorn is a church, built in Gothic style, whose origins date lower back to 1450, whilst the current structure dates from 1616. Originally it was a Roman Catholic church, supposed for fishermen and skippers. Anthony the Great was the patron. After the reformation it have become a reformed church. The church has stained glass windows. The church was decommissioned on the cease of the 60s of the 20th century.

After years of emptiness, or even threatened demolition, the Oosterkerk Foundation restored the building and put it into use for multifunctional purposes. On Sunday the church is utilized by the Dutch Reformed Church. Although the church is a reformed church, there are still numerous pics of saints in and across the church. At the crossroads there are still four scales within the form of 4 evangelists. It is about Saints Luke, John, Mark, and Matthew. In the Oosterkerksteeg you'll find the fifth statue of saints, now inside the form of Saint Anthony, with a pig and tauteken.
