About Tetela del Volcan
Tetela del Volcan or Tetela, is a town and district in the Mexican province of Morelos. It is situated on the inclines of the spring of gushing lava Popocatepetl. The city fills in as the civil seat for the encompassing district of a similar name. It is prominent for its 16th century Dominican ex-religious circle which together with various other early cloisters adjacent in the region has been proclaimed an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The district revealed 20,698 inhabitants in the year 2015 enumeration. Different towns in the district of Tetela del Volcan incorporate Hueyapan, Xochicalco and Tlamimilulpan. The toponym Tetela originates from Nahuatl and signifies "spot of rocks". The Volcan "fountain of liquid magma" alluded to is, obviously, Popocatepetl.
In 1503, Tetela del Volcan and adjacent Hueyapan were oppressed to the Aztec Empire by Moctezuma II. The principal Spaniards to touch base in Tetela were Bernardino Vazquez de Tapia and Pedro de Alvarado in 1519. After the fall of Tenochtitlan Cortes touched base in Tetela del Volcan, where he observed the Indians to be safe and savage. As indicated by Diego Duran their enslavement was accomplished just gratitude to the mediation of Maria Estrada and her significant other Pedro Sanchez Farfan, for which Cortes granted the couple the terrains of Tetela as an encomienda. In 1561 this encomienda was repudiated and laid under the Spanish Crown straightforwardly, and in the Relacion Geografica from 1665 this "realengo" seems, by all accounts, to be administrated by corregidor Cristobal Martinez de Maldonado.
