About Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle is a Japanese Edo-period stronghold in the city of Hikone, in Shiga Prefecture. It is considered the most critical chronicled working in Shiga. Hikone is one of just 12 Japanese palaces with the first keep, and one of just five strongholds recorded as a national fortune. Hikone Castle follows its root to 1603 when Ii Naokatsu, child of the previous daimyu Ii Naomasa, requested its development.

The keep was initially worked in 1575, as a component of Otsu Castle, and was moved to Hikone by the Ii group. Different pieces of the stronghold were moved from Nagahama Castle. Hikone Castle was finished in 1622. Naokatsu's territories had been taken from him in the interim by the Tokugawa shogunate, and when his sibling Naotaka expected control of the region around Omi Province, he had the capacity to finish the chateau by gathering stones from the previous Sawayama Castle.

The principle keep of Hikone Castle was assigned a National Treasure by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture in 1952. Hikone Castle additionally has a few sections which are assigned Important National Cultural Assets, Umaya Stable, Tenbin Yagura Balance Scale Turret, Taikomon Yagura Drum Gate Turret and Nishinomaru Sanju Yagura.
