Al Jazzar Mosque

The smooth blueprint of the green-domed Al Jazzar Mosque, with its thin, minaret, orders the northern end of Akko's old city.

Al Jazzar himself planned the mosque in exemplary Ottoman Turkish style and supervised its development in 1781.

Inside are wonderfully reestablished marble minbar podium and luxurious mihrab Mecca-confronting specialty, with sensitive calligraphy taking off on the blue and green tiles above.

Dress unassumingly cover from shoulders to knees ladies must cover their heads with a shawl.

The mosque remains on the site of a previous Crusader house of prayer, the basements of which were put into utilization by the Turks as reservoirs.
