Journey to Tapovan is just 16 kms from Joshimath but its beauty goes beyond words and imaginations. The marvelous landscapes, valleys, mountains, hills, farms and adjoining villages make this route special exotic section of Uttarakhand.
Tapovan is a hot water spring which emerges from a yellow soiled hill. Its temperature reaches beyond 100 degree centigrade which is a natural phenomenon of this place. It seems ‘Sulphur’ components are richly present in the yellow soil causing water to boil. So far it has not been discovered by any scientist or geologist why the hot water emerges from it. Many times travellers put some rice or eggs in a polythene bag and put it into the spring which becomes consumable in a while.
Travellers on Auli and Joshimath excursion should also explore Tapovan which can be accessed in just half an hour of drive. My recommendation is to go little slow with enjoying the splendid realms. Travellers must halt and admire ‘Bada’ and ‘Dhak’ villages, these are full of nature appealing.
