Constructed across rhe River Krishna in Kurnool district, the Srisailam Dam is a major attraction point in the city. It is one of the largest dams and the 3rd largest hydroelectric power project in India.
The Dam took 20 years to be completed and today, provides water for irrigation in the districts of Kurnool and Cuddapah, which come under the drought prone Rayalaseema region.
This man-made marvel is a must visit. It is constructed in a deep gorge of the beautiful Nallamala hills and is surrounded by greenary all around. The dam looks immensely beautiful in the monsoon when all its gates are open. The greenary and nature all around, the pleasant sound of the water gushing through and the rhythmic fall of water is an idea of a perfect weekend gateway when in Srisailam. The Dam has some special view points where the visitors can go and capture the beautiful views of the reservoir.
