Shri Shantadurga Temple - Kavlem

Shri Shantadurga Temple is an expansive temple situated at the lower region of Kavlem town in Ponda Taluka. This temple is considered as a standout amongst the most critical and the greatest sanctuary in Goa. This temple is devoted to Goddess Shantadurga the Goddess of Peace. The divinity is additionally called 'Santeri' casually.

Shantadurga put Vishnu on her correct hand and Shiva on her left hand and settled the battle. As indicated by the legend, a savage fight was made amongst Shiva and Vishnu that Lord Brahma appealed to Parvati to intercede, which she did as Shantadurga.

The god of Shantadurga is appeared as holding two serpents one in each hand speaking to Vishnu and Shiva. This symbol of Shree Jagdamba Devi which had come to make peace between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva came to be known as Shree Shantadurga Devi.
