About Pushkaranis

The Pushkaranis in Hampi are the sacred water tanks which are connected to the temples. Most of the most important temples in Hampi have a pushkarani constructed close to them. The pushkaranis had been a outstanding feature of the ruined city. The sacred tanks have been associated with various rituals and purposeful aspects of the temples and the people surrounding the temples. The tanks had been considered to be sacred locations by the human beings of Hampi inside the historical times.
Even today the pushkaranis are a large appeal for the vacationers who visit Hampi to explore the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. The pushkaranis in Hampi are a part of the historical town’s planning and architecture. Many of the pushkaranis have been built during the time of the Vijayanagara Empire. The water tanks related to the temples had been used to serve the ritualistic purposes of these temples.
There are a few water tanks that are not associated with the temples.
