About Othandeeswarar Temple

Othandeeswarar Temple in Thirumazhisai, a town in Tiruvallur area in the South Indian territory of Tamil Nadu, is devoted to the Hindu god Shiva. It is found 22 km from the state capital Chennai. Developed in the Dravidian style of design, the sanctuary was worked amid the eleventh century by Chola lord Kulothunga Chola II. Shiva is adored as Othandeeswarar and his partner Parvathi as Kulirvithanayaki. A stone divider encompasses the sanctuary, encasing every one of its places of worship. The sanctuary has a five-layered rajagopuram, the passage tower.
The Vijayanagar and Nayak rulers made further extension to the sanctuary amid the sixteenth century. The temple has numerous engravings from the Chola time frame during the eleventh century. Kulothunga Chola II is accepted to have fabricated the sanctuary and the sanctuaries in the present frame. Students of history trust that the place of worship of Vishnu is by all accounts later expansion. Sengunda Mudaliyars constructed numerous hallowed places in the sanctuary and renovated the tank.
The Vijayanagara rulers, who governed the locale, have done kind blessings to the sanctuary. In present day times, the sanctuary is kept up and regulated by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary takes after Saivite custom. The sanctuary ministers play out the pooja customs amid celebrations and every day. As at other Shiva sanctuaries of Tamil Nadu, the clerics have a place with the Shaivaite people group, a Brahmin sub-station.
