A recent addition to the revered temples of the holy town, Srisailam is the Hemareddy Mallamma temple which was inaugurated in the year 2010 by Konijeti Rosaiah, the CM of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated in the Manikyamma Ashramam road, and has an ashram nearby.
The temple has a lot of intriguing stories behind it, thus giving the visitors a fascinating experience of visiting it. The temple is dedicated to Hemareddy, the devotee who devoted her entire life to Sri Saila Mallikarjuna Swamy. The greatness of her devotion is depicted in the temple.
There are two water channels originating from where Mallamma lived. As legend goes, Mallamma on receiving the darshan of Lord Shiva shed tears in happiness, and these channels are meant for the same. There is a cow shed behind the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, which is another symbol of her devotion.
