Harishpur

Harishpur is a town in Andal CD Block in Durgapur subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman area in the Indian territory of West Bengal. The Asansol-Durgapur district is made up of undulating laterite soil. This zone lies between two powerful waterways – the Damodar and the Ajay. They stream relatively parallel to one another in the area – the normal separation between the two waterways is around 30 km. For a long time the region was vigorously forested and swarmed with pillagers and raiders. The disclosure of coal in the eighteenth century prompted industrialisation of the region and the vast majority of the woods have been cleared.
