Hansi is an ancient fort town that is located in the State of Haryana. It is famous for its forts and ancient buildings and once was a prosperous city. It is said that the city was once home to a sword manufacturing company which was set up the King Prithviraj Chauhan. The swords that were made here were exported to the Middle East and were known for its high quality.
The influences of the Rajputs, Marathas and the British can be seen today in its monuments as it was ruled by each of them at one point or the other. Another important fact is that George Thomas who as sailor of humble origins in Ireland formed his own kingdom and made the city his capital. However it was taken over the British in 1802 and came under the rule of the British East India Company. In recent years Hansi is remembered only as a fort as it has lost some of its colonial importance.
