Gas City is a city in Grant County, Indiana. It progressed toward becoming something of a blast town when gaseous petrol was found in the territory in 1887. The Gas City Land Company was established on March 21, 1892 and the town of around 150 individuals changed its name to Gas City a couple of days later.
However, starting at 2012 a great part of the gas is drained. See Indiana Gas Boom.The Gas City High School, Thompson-Ray House, and West Ward School are recorded on the National Register of Historic Places. Gas City has an aggregate territory of 4.56 square miles 11.81 km square, all land.
