Chaukhutia is a town in Almora region of Uttarakhand. It is situated on the bank of the stream Ramganga, and gets its name from a Kumaoni word "Chau-khut" which implies four feet. In Chaukhutia's unique circumstance, 'four feet' implies four ways or headings. The primary route is towards Ramnagar, second towards Karanprayag, third towards Ranikhet and Almora and the fourth path is towards Tadagtaal, Kheera.
A gathering of little sanctuaries going back to ninth century AD were found in Chaukhutia, amid a removal in 2016-17. The sanctuaries, as indicated by customs of the engineering, were developed around 9000 years ago. Some of the sanctuaries didn't have rooftops, yet shivalingas inside the sanctuaries were as yet in place. These sanctuaries were thought to be a piece of an extensive gathering of sanctuaries that were covered, maybe, by flotsam and jetsam of avalanche long back.
