Chamunda or Camunda is a part of Devi, the incomparable mother goddess. The name is a mix of Chanda and Munda, two beasts which Devi slaughtered. The well known sanctuary of Ma Chamunda is in Kangra area of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is around 10 km west of Palampur, on the Baner stream.
Around 400 years prior the lord and a Brahmin cleric petitioned Devi for authorization to move the sanctuary to some effortlessly open area. Devi appeared to the cleric in a fantasy giving her assent. She guided him to dive in a specific spot and an old symbol would be found and that icon ought to be introduced in the sanctuary and loved as Her frame.
