About Belfort Cathedral

With pride of place before the Place d'Armes, Belfort's Neoclassical place of God almost resembles the out of date points of interest at Petra when you see it from the west side. It was planned as a nunnery church in the main portion of the 1700s and didn't turn into a basilica until 1979 when the bishopric of Belfort-Montbeliard was created.

The striking pink sandstone utilized as a part of the development was quarried close by in the town of Offemont and the inside was a stage for Franche-Comte craftsmen of an opportunity to demonstrate what they could do and has form by Antoine Cupillard and works of art by Gustave Dauphin. It is one of the state monuments since a long time.
