About Sandbjerg

Sandbjerg is a former property and manor residence five km north of Sønderborg within the southeast of Jutland, Denmark. The property dates from 1571, however modern-day residence turned into built in 1788. Since 1959, the estate has been utilized by Aarhus University for coaching and studies. Today it is the college's convention centre. Sandbjerg is cited for the primary time round 1500. In 1564, King Frederick II transferred a third of his residences, together with Sandbjerg, to his brother John II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg.

It remained in the arms of the House of Sonderburg until Christian Adolf's financial ruin in 1667, when it changed into lower back to the Crown. In 1668 it became bought to the statesman Conrad Reventlow, who installed the fiefdom of Reventlow-Sandbjerg. In 1788, Conrad Georg Reventlow 1749 to 1815 commissioned Christian August Bohlsmann to construct a mansion overlooking the Alssund on the east side of Molle So. The park and the tenancy buildings and the mansion now shape the Sandbjerg Estate. After retiring from the army in 1795, Reventlow spent prolonged intervals at Sandbjerg where he enjoyed accurate food and drink prepared through his French chef, Charles Maton. Among his visitors have been the poets Jens Baggesen and Adam Oehlenschlager.
