Sigiriya (or Lion Rock) a Rock Fortress built in 477 is the center point of Sri Lanka’s rich culture and history. A spectacular Rock Fortress is one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions and for certain the most famous. It was once discussed as being the 8th Wonder of the World with its science baffling Water Gardens, the Frescoes of beautiful maidens, the Mirror Wall with ancient graffiti, the Lion platform and the Summit of 1.6 hectares, which was completely covered by buildings during the period of Sigiriya’s glory. Built by King Kashyapa (477-495 A.D), the “Lion Rock” is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200m from the scrub jungle.
After a sumptuous breakfast today you will leave for Kandy – a World Heritage city and the second largest Sri Lanka set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and bio diverse rainforest. Traditions and culture remain undisturbed by European influence in the colonial era. The Royal Palace, now known as the "The Temple of the Tooth Relic" (of Lord Buddha), situated right beside the city’s beautiful centerpiece lake. Some days the skies seem perpetually bruised, with stubborn mist clinging to the hills surrounding. Today you will travel to Bentota a popular stretch of beach resorts offering excellent sun sea and sand to wind down your dream vacation. Nestled on the mighty Indian ocean Bentota is almost a midway point between Colombo and Galle. With its ribbon of golden sand to lay on and relax the main objective here is to wind down and just ‘do nothing’.
