Old Moses Mountain Hut 3

After an early morning pick up from your respective place at 07:30 hrs, we proceed to Nanyuki Town which takes 3-4 hours.

On arrival we have a stop over in Nanyuki shopping mall Nakumatt to finalize the purchase of food and any other mountain gears.

There after we proceed to the Sirimon Gate, this normally takes not more than 1 hour. On arrival at the gate we will have lunch as we formalize the entry process and payments of the fees as required by the Kenya Wildlife Service {KWS} Park Authority.

After the process the walking start from the gate to the camp. It normally takes 2-3 hours to get to Old Moses which is about 3300 m.

Shipton Camp 3

Wake up call at 0630 hrs and you will be served with breakfast as well as hot coffee and tea depending with your preference. After the breakfast, prepare yourself and re-arrange the bag as we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley.

In this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks lie. Climb out of the North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch along the valley on top of the cliff.

After lunch we will have 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp just bellow the main peak of Batian and Nelion. It normally takes 7-8 hrs to get to the Shipton Camp.

On arrival you will find your cup of hot coffee or tea is ready as our crew always goes ahead to make sure the services are provided always on time. After refreshments you can either have a short walk for acclimatizing and then descend to the Camp or just rest at the camp as you wait for the dinner to be served.

Shipton Camp 3

For better acclimatization you can take a rest day at the Shipton camp. Short walks day hikes are possible on the summit climb to Oblong and Hausberg, gaining an elevation of 370m before returning to the camp for lunch. Afternoon is at leisure.

Meru Bandas 3

Leave at 3 am up a steep stony scree that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving Mount Kenya point Lenana (4 km from Shipton Camp) at 6:30 am, taking about 3 hrs.

After the sunrise, descend down to Mintos hut (3 km), 2 hrs, for breakfast and 17 km, 4-5 hrs further down to Mount Meru Bandas, 2950 m, for the last dinner and overnight on Mount Kenya.

After breakfast, descend on a broad track through bamboo and virgin rain forest to meet the vehicle where you will connect with your transfer vehicle back to Nairobi.
