Pile Gate

The word Pile is dervied from the Greek pilai which implies entryway from which we can infer that for a considerable length of time Pile door has been and still is the fundamental access to the city. It comprises of two entryways outside and inside the dividers, two scaffolds - the stone extension with three curves, worked by an undertaking by Paskoje Milicevic and the wooden drawbridge which was developed rather than the last curve in the sixteenth century. As you cross the extension and enter the primary entryway you may see weights and along the edge a winch which were utilized to lower and raise the drawbridge. On the fastener twist between the door there was the enormous pinnacle of Pile which was first said alread in the tenth century! 972 which stayed until the fall of the Republic. The wooden extension used to be raised each night to avert undesirable visitors entering the city.
