About Lara Heritage & Historical Museum

Lara Heritage & Historical Museum is positioned in Lara. The Lara Museum and Historical Centre occupies the web site that was in the beginning mounted as the Lake Bank Hotel circa 1860. Bisinella Developments significantly refurbished the assets and now hire it at a peppercorn lease to the Lara Heritage and Historical Incorporated whose volunteer members run the Museum. One of Lara’s oldest ancient homes, The Lake Bank Hotel, is Lara’s only surviving 19th century resort. It was built for Scottish immigrant James Henderson and operated as a licensed lodge until 1908. The one of a kind limestone buildings were home to five generations of Mr Henderson’s own family until bought through Mr Bisinella in 2010.

Two long-time Lara citizens and friends, Ian Board and Les Kelly, had lengthy held a desire to establish a Museum in Lara, and that desire changed into multiplied after they have been involved in organising a remembrance day in January 2009 for the 40th anniversary of the disastrous 1969 Lara Bush Fires. However they struggled to find a suitable building to carry the dream to life. When they learnt that Mr Bisinella had bought the Lake Bank Hotel they approached him about the opportunity of the use of the ancient homes as a network museum. He enthusiastically agreed and launched into the most important restoration task that once more made the antique hotel geared up for public use.
