First sold in New York in 2011, this masterpiece is the most expensive photograph ever sold, at a price of $4,338,500, most of it has been edited and photo-shopped. Gursky says he removed many of the elements that in one way damaged the composition, elements such as trees and buildings were removed.
2. CINDY SHERMAN
Also sold in 2011 at a price of $3,890,500, Sherman chose to not give it any title, that way it would be open to interpretation.
3. JEFF WALL
With a price of $3,666,500, this piece of photography is a montage from 1992, and the interpretation behind it was that, it envisioned the aftermath of an ambush in Afghanistan in 1986.
4. ANDREAS GURSKY
This photograph is known to have fuelled up controversies, at the time of sale in 2007, sold at a price of $3,346,456.
5. DIMITRY MEDVEDEV
This photo was taken aerially. It is a display of white stone walls and towers of the Kremlin in Tobolsk, Russia. Sold in 2010 at a private fundraising auction at a price of $1,750,000. And sometimes one is just left to wonder, how far people are willing to go deep in their pockets just to own one of those pieces of art; it takes much more than just passion to have one of those.
