1. Govt. Proposed to Promote Homestay Tourism in India
There is wide scope for improvement in the domestic tourism in India. Considering it, central government has moved ahead and proposed to promote various tourist destinations in country. In this regard, Union Tourism Secretary is revising its guideline to make it more lucrative for organizations that are in tourism industry and offering homestay by providing Indian hospitality and taste. Vinod Zutshi said that these organizations have to go for renew their licenses and need to pay taxes as per commercial rates. The central also fixed a deadline to develop 50 thematic tourists circuits in the country by March 31, 2019.
The main emphasis will be on cruise tourism, wellness and medical, heritage sights along with spiritual and yoga. The major thematic centers like Ramayana, Krishna, Buddhist and coastal circuits are under development and is provided priority. Further, group proposed that the homestays should be free from providing service tax or commercial tax, property tax, water tax, electricity tax and the online facility should be provided for renewing and obtaining license. It is expected that state will come forward to modify the guidelines that will encourage homestay that will lead to better benefits and will increase tourism in country.
