About Museum of Cham Sculpture

The Museum's first building was developed in 1915 and opened to the general population in 1919 however numerous Cham models gathered in Da Nang, Quang Nam and somewhere else were conveyed to the site over the former twenty years. The gathering was started by French archaelogists and specialists from L'ecole Francaise d'Extreme Orient EFEO. A few antiquities were sent to Paris and others to the Ha Noi and Sai Gon now Ho Chi Minh City historical centers, yet numerous regular items were left in Tourane now Da Nang.

The foundation of a Cham mold historical center in Da Nang was first proposed in 1902 by the Department of Archaelogy of EFEO. Henri Parmentier, a noticeable archaelogist of the division, made extraordinary commitments to the compaign for its development. The primary building was planned by two French modelers M. Deleval and M. Auclair. The Museum has been expanded twice, yet the character of the first design has been very much safeguarded.

In 2002, the Museum was again stretched out with the two-story building give an additional 1000 square meter. The new building gives space to show, stockpiling, a library, rebuilding workshop and workplaces for staff. Before 2007, the Museum was overseen by the Museum of Da Nang, and managerial organ responsible for the urban areas' historical centers and legacy. On 02 July 2007, the city specialists associated the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture with the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
