About Soulard

It is named for Antoine Soulard, who initially started to build up the land. Soulard was a surveyor for the Spanish government and an exile from the French Revolution in the 1790s. One of the most established networks in the city, Soulard is today a generally private neighborhood whose numerous organizations incorporate eateries, bars, and the North American home office of Anheuser-Busch, which houses the St. Louis Brewery.

Half of the area north of Lynch Street is made generally out of column homes and little lofts with the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and home office possessing a large portion of the land south of Lynch. A considerable lot of its homes date to the mid-to-late-nineteenth century. Soulard likewise has a few memorable churches. Many of its bars have unrecorded music, particularly the blues and jazz groups which the city is known for.

The barrel house blues piano player James Crutchfield lived in the area from 1984 until his passing in 2001 and performed in huge numbers of the nightclubs.
