Portland Museum of Art

Built up as the Portland Society of Art in 1882. It is arranged in the downtown domain known zone The Arts District in Portland, Maine.The PMA used a collection of show spaces until 1908; that year Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat gave her three-story estate, now known as the McLellan House, and sufficient advantages for make a display in memory of her late life partner, Lorenzo De Medici Sweat, who was a U.S. Delegate. Noted New England originator John Calvin Stevens created the L. D. M. Sweat Memorial Galleries, which opened to individuals when all is said in done in 1911.Over the accompanying 65 years, as the size and degree of the introductions expanded, the imperatives of the Museum's shows, accumulating, and reinforce areas wound up self-evident.
