About Pickett House
The Pickett House is the most seasoned house in the city of Bellingham, Washington, situated on 910 Bancroft Street. Worked in 1856 by United States Army Captain George Pickett, who later turned into an unmistakable general in the Confederate States Army amid the Civil War, the house was recorded on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. After Captain Pickett landed in Bellingham on the misrepresentation of supervising the development Fort Bellingham, he picked a spot on what was then called Peabody Hill in the town of Whatcom to be cleared for his home.
The house was worked with two stories of timber gave by the close-by Roeder-Peabody stumble process on Whatcom Creek. About multi year later, the Captain's child, James Tilton Pickett, was conceived in the house. After Pickett left Bellingham in 1861 to serve in the Civil War, the house changed hands a few times, previously Hattie Strothers went out to the Washington State Historical Society in 1936 upon her passing. In 1941, the home turned into a historical center, and later home to the Daughters of Pioneers, both of which still possess the site. Not very many changes have been made to the first structure. A tight staircase was added to supplant the step prompting the upstairs resting quarters, and a kitchen has been added to the shelter area of the house.
