About Fort Delaware State Park

Fort Delaware State Park is a 288-section of land 117 ha Delaware state stop on Pea Patch Island in New Castle County. A fortification was based on Pea Patch Island by the United States Army in 1815, close to the finish of the War of 1812, to secure the harbors of Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The stronghold was scorched and reconstructed in the years preceding the American Civil War, and not long after the beginning of the war the fortress was changed over to a Prisoner of War camp. Fortress Delaware kept on ensuring the mouth of the Delaware River through World War I and II. Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware was announced surplus land by the United States Department of Defense in 1945.Fort Delaware State Park, one of the principal state stops in Delaware, was built up in 1951. The recreation center, which must be gotten to by ship, is open for notable projects at Fort Delaware. The fortification is recorded on the National Register of Historic Places.
