About Farmington Canal Greenway

On the foot rear areas of the fruition of the Erie Canal in New York State, a gathering of New Haven businesspeople met in 1821 with the objective of building a channel in Connecticut to encourage exchange. Ground was first broken on July 4, 1825. It was finished in 1835. The waterway was not shoddy to assemble, and the funds of the development and upkeep of the trench were constantly shaky. Railways put a conclusion to the utilization of the waterway.

Only 12 years after the channel was finished, a rail bed was laid to cover a similar course the waterway had crossed. The Canal Railroad stayed being used until the point when the mid 1980's, when surges harmed the rail line to the point that it could never again be utilized. Despite the fact that there is as yet a little part of the first rail line being used in Plainville, CT, the track was to a great extent expelled by 1987, and huge bits of what had been the rail line were sold.
