Richborough Castle

Richborough, known as a Rutupiae, was the Gateway to Britain, some time before Dover. It is here that the 4 attacking Legions under Aulus Plautius amassed in the wake of arriving in Britain amid the Claudian Invasion of AD 43. Here you can visit with your family members and loved ones.
Richborough Castle, the advanced name for what is left of the Roman stronghold Rutupiae, backs its incredible mass against the horizon around one mile toward the Northwest of Sandwich. This watched the southern side of the Wantsum channel when the ocean streamed around the bluff on which the Castle stands.
