About Marlborough White Horse

The Marlborough White Horse, additionally called the Preshute White Horse, is a slope figure on Granham Hill, a genuinely shallow slant of the downland over the town of Preshute, close Marlborough in the province of Wiltshire, England. Dating from 1804, it is one of a few such white steeds to be seen around Great Britain, and one of nine in Wiltshire. Numerous removed perspectives of the pony are deterred by trees, yet it very well may be seen from parts of the town of Marlborough.

One great view is from a trail running from Preshute House to the A345 street. Its area is somewhere in the range of 500 meters south of the Marlborough College, inside 100 meters of the Southeast corner of the sportsgrounds. The littlest such steed in Wiltshire, the Marlborough horse was cut in 1804 by young men at Mr Greasley's Academy, likewise called the High Street Academy, a school in the Marlborough High Street which involved the building now The Ivy House Hotel. This was not the present-day Marlborough College, or, in other words short separation away.

The steed was composed and set apart out on the slope by a kid called William Canning, whose family possessed the Manor House at Ogbourne St George. From that point onwards, it was "scoured", or tidied up, each year, this turning into a convention at the school set apart by celebration. Greasley passed on around 1830, and the school was shut, prompting the pony being ignored for a few years, however by 1860 it was back in great condition and can be found in a photo taken that year at a cricket coordinate. In 1873 a Captain Reed, an old kid of Greasley's Academy who had partaken in the steed's creation, saw to another scouring.
