About Buxton Museum and Art Gallery
Buxton Museum and Art Gallery focuses its series on history, geology and archaeology basically from the Peak District and Derbyshire. The museum is positioned at Terrace Road, Buxton, England. The museum opens Tuesday to Saturday all year round and from Easter to the stop of September is also open on Sunday and Bank Holiday afternoons. Entry is free. The constructing became erected in 1880 and at the beginning served as the Peak Hydropathic Hotel. During the First World War, the Red Cross used it to care for wounded Canadian infantrymen.
The Buxton Free Public Library & Museum moved into the constructing in 1928, leaving the Town Hall. Amongst the minerals are Blue John, carved limestone, neighborhood specimens, and cave deposits. In 2006, Buxton Museum purchased an extraordinary collection of ornamental Ashford Black Marble wares, collectively with gear used to work the stone series left by means of John Michael Tomlinson. Other collections regarding Derbyshire, additionally controlled from Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, include a Derbyshire Police Collection.
