About Alford Manor House
The Manor House is a Grade II recorded building which can be found on West road inside Alford, Lincolnshire, England. It is accepted to be the biggest covered home in England and was worked to a conventional H plan in 1611. It is an exceptionally uncommon case of a composite structure, including a wooden casing with reed and mortar, encased in block. Ground-floor and first floor rooms include outline mediations from Georgian through to Victorian occasions, while the loft floor is essentially immaculate since 1611. The house was conceivably worked by a John Hopkinson The house owes a lot of its reality to the abundance of one of its proprietors, Sir Robert Christopher.
Christopher battled for the Royalist cause in the common war and was knighted by Charles II following the restoration. The house was acquired by his granddaughter, Lucy, who wedded John Manners, Duke of Rutland. From there on Alford Manor House was possessed by inhabitants, one of whom was John Higgins, who landed in around 1820. He was a companion of Charles Darwin's dad, Robert, and was the neighborhood Land Agent. He built up his office in the 19th century add which you can see on the east wing of the house. It was his relative, Dorothy Higgins, a specialist and individual from Alford Town Council, who purchased the property in 1958 and offered it to the town in 1967. Alford Civic Trust was set up then to oversee and care for the property.
