Marschlins Castle

Marschlins Castle is a fortress inside the Igis in Switzerland. It is a Swiss background web page of countrywide significance. Marschlins Castle became the adolescence home of feminist Meta von Salis. The citadel become built in the 13^th century, although there can also were 11^th or 12^th century castles at the web site and local legend claims it dates returned to the Carolingian era.

However, the 13th century fortress become likely constructed for the Bishop of Chur. The castle is constructed within the Savoyard style, a square citadel with nook towers, one of which is enlarged to serve as the donjon. This style of castle is unique in Graubunden and the way the layout was imported is unknown. One idea for a Savoy connection is that among 1233 and 1237 the Bishop of Chur was Ulrich IV of Kyburg whose brother Hartmann IV become married to Margarethe of Savoy.

The fortress become first noted on 12 May 1324 as the demise region of the knight Jacob von Marmels. In 1336 the Bishop and Count Ulrich von Montfort were quarreling over the citadel, which turned into decided by using the courts in the Bishop's prefer. However, in the following year he granted the fort as a fief to Duke Albert II of Austria.
