Kerala Tourism Department Decides To Construct Airstrip At Bekal

For providing better air connectivity to Kerala and its tourist destinations, government has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 35 crore. The emphasis is on constructing an airstrip that connects Bekal Fort in the state. The airstrip will be sufficient for the 50-seater aircraft to land at this place and carry tourists from various parts of India. The construction will be under the guidance of Cochin International Airport Limited CIAL and has finalized the Detailed Project Report of the airstrip. The meeting of the stakeholders is yet to be commenced where detailed discussion on the construction of airstrip will be the prime focus.

About 40 acres of land is already in possession of government and rest will be finalized soon. With this airstrip, the area will have six resorts and several other facilities for the tourists. With it, the airline will directly operate to Bekal along with having easy connectivity with international airports. The decision of constructing an airstrip at Bekal was in consideration of decision from Kerala Tourism Department to market the tourist destinations at international tourist affairs. Thus, necessary infrastructure is required for the development of tourism in the state.
