Kiri Vehara is an ancient stupa based in Kataragama, Sri Lanka. It is one of the few places in Sri Lanka which is worshipped by most of the popular religious people in Sri Lanka. Kiri Vehara is one of the most popular Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka. It is one of the 16 most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites of ancient Sri Lanka.
According to the Buddhists, Kiri Vehara is among the Solosmasthana, one of the 16 places visited by Lord Buddha during his 3 visits to Sri Lanka. So This stupa most likely goes back to the sixth century BC and is accepted to be built by King Mahasena.
