About Puente Romano
One of Mérida's most famous sights, the Roman Bridge gave a key connection between the old city of Emérita Augusta and Tarragona. This old Roman extension was initially worked amid the rule of Emperor Augustus and was reestablished over later periods. At 792 meters in length, it is one of the biggest Roman extensions in Spain.
Worked from reinforced stone, the extension traverses the Guadiana River with its 60 half circle curves. The columns are adjusted and were all around intended for spill streams when the waterway's water level is high
