About Annenkrone

Annenkrone is a mid 18th century fortress in Vyborg, Russia. It is situated outside the town in the island of Tverdysh. The development was begun by Peter the Great in 1720, after Russia had effectively completed the Siege of Vyborg and caught the town from Sweden in the Great Northern War. The stronghold was finished by Anna of Russia in 1741. Annenkrone is made out of four bastions and three ravelins confronting west and one channel on the north side.

The fortress was never utilized in war. After the Finnish War of 1808– 1809 Annenkrone lost its noteworthiness as Finland turned into a piece of the Russian Empire and the fringe against Sweden was exchanged many kilometers west. The last sleeping enclosure and different structures were finished in the mid 19th century. Today the fortress is a piece of the Petrovsky District. Amid the Finnish period 1917– 1944 it was a piece of the Siikaniemi district. After the 1918 Finnish Civil War Battle of Vyborg, a mass execution was directed in Annenkrone as the Whites shot up to 400 Russian regular people in the alleged Vyborg slaughter.
