About Varsag
Varsag is a commune in Harghita County, Romania. It lies in the Szekely Land, an ethno-cultural area in eastern Transylvania. It consists of a single village, Varsag. The call Varsag became first referred to in 1598. In 1888, it was recorded as Varsag-tisztas but the location turned into no longer inhabited until the end of the 19th century while summer time dwellings for villagers were built right here. The first everlasting citizens have been woodworkers, shingle makers from the neighboring Szekely villages. It have become a commune as late as in 1906 and became referred to as Varsagtelep at the start. Since 1908, it has been referred to as Szekelyvarsag in Hungarian. In 1910, it had 1233 Hungarian inhabitants.
Until the end of VVI, the village belonged to Udvarhely County inside the Kingdom of Hungary. After the Treaty of Trianon of 1920, the village became a part of Romania and fell inside Odorhei County during the interwar period. In 1940, the second one Vienna Award granted Northern Transylvania to Hungary and the village became held by using Hungary till 1944. After Soviet profession, the Romanian administration back and the commune have become officially part of Romania in 1947.
