About Sanmihaiu Roman
Sanmihaiu Romania is a municipality in the county of Timis, Banat, Romania, together with the villages Sanmihaiu German, Sanmihaiu Roman and Utvin. It is placed within the Timis Plain, on the Bega Canal. The first documentary attestation of the Romanian Sanmihai dates from 1333, being noted inside the papal tithes lists with the name Sanctus Michael. Ioan Lotreanu considers that the attribution of this name is inaccurate, being stressed with the locality of Sveti Mihaljo in the Serbian Banat.
However, there are in addition mentions inside the files, along with a degree from 1350 which refers back to the locality with the name Sanctus Mychael. An vintage Romanian town, resisted the Turkish occupation, so that in 1717, after the conquest of the Austrian Banat, it'd have forty houses. It appears then written on Mercy's map from 1723 to 1725 and on maps from 1761 and 1783. The Romanian church turned into built in 1774.In the interwar duration it became part of the Chisoda mesh, Timis-Torontal county, had over 2,000 population and over 500 houses.
