About Royal Norwegian Navy Museum

The Royal Norwegian Navy Museum is a museum documenting the records of the Royal Norwegian Navy. It is placed at the former major naval base of Karljohansvern in Horten. The museum became based by means of C.F. Klink on 24 August 1853. The museum is every now and then seemed as the world's first naval museum, because it changed into the first series of naval memorabilia open to the public. The collection contains numerous decommissioned ships, plenty system utilized by the Norwegian, Allied and German navies and ship fashions, artwork and photographs.

In the 1980s the Royal Norwegian Navy Library turned into transferred to the museum. The library's ebook collection started in 1805. The Museum and Library have a ebook series of about 25,000 volumes. In addition the museum has preserved all the military's deliver log books from 1814 to today. Parts of the Museum have been however destroyed for the duration of an allied bombing raid on Horten in February 1945. The museum also preserves deliver designs and has an archive of Navy regulations and guidelines from about 1750 to these days, with approximately four,500 volumes.
