About Koepoort

The Koepoort or Westerpoort is a city gate in Enkhuizen. The gate used to be the main western entrance of Enkhuizen and is a part of the old fortifications of the city. Somewhere in the range of 1590 and 1593 Enkhuizen was stretched out toward the west. Another city divider was worked with a canal and seven bastions. At the Koepoort's present area, a wooden door and a drawbridge were manufactured. After fifty years gets ready for a stone entryway spread. The Koepoort's engineer is likely Jacob van Campen. In 1649 the establishment stone was put at its place, however it before long turned out that the Bentheimer sandstone utilized as a part of the plan coundn't be provided.

The door was done temporarily in 1654. Movement was guided through the door. As a result of a cleared street towards Hoorn, that was made in 1672, a major lump of all the city's movement came in through the entryway. The Koepoort before long started to rot due to lacking support. In 1730 the entryway was recuperated and furnished with a vault. In 1793 an accuracy was set inside the vault. Since 1930, the movement is guided around the entryway. The primary road of Enkhuizen, the Westerstraat, closes at the Koepoort and proceeds as Westeinde.
