About Gifu City Museum of History

The Gifu City Museum of History is a town-supported history museum located inside the town of Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Located in Gifu Park at the bottom of Mount Kinka, it is in the heart of Gifu City's sightseeing location. The museum mainly focuses on the records and traditional crafts of the encircling region and consists of a recreation of a Warring States Period free marketplace that become created by means of Oda Nobunaga, a leading feudal lord of the 16th century, in addition to many hands-on famous.

The museum frequently hosts special exhibitions, which cover a wide type of issues. Planning for the museum started in 1972 due to an initiative by means of the neighborhood Social Education Committee. Construction become completed in 1985 and the museum opened in November of that year. In March 2005, after undergoing good sized renovations, the museum held a grand renewal commencing, just in time for its 20th anniversary that November.

Currently, both the Eizo & Toichi Katu Memorial Art Museum in Gifu Park and the Yanaizu Folklore Museum in Yanaizu-chu serve as branches to the museum.
