Paleontological Museum of Montevarchi

The Paleontological Museum in Montevarchi covered within the patrimony of the Academia Valdarnese del Loggia, is positioned inside the medieval Franciscan convent of San Lodovico and contains around 26 hundred artifacts, coming nearly entirely from the Upper Valdarno and courting from the Late Pliocene to Early Pliocene epochs.

The show takes on a journey millions of years into the past. Through choose artefacts, each inserted into reconstructions of their respective environments, traffic can appreciate the climactic and environmental modifications that happened over the direction of the Valdarno’s records, the fauna that became as soon as found in sequoia forests in heat-humid climates 3 million to 100,000 years ago, the Ice Age Five million years ago, the large Pleistocene lake, and the earliest presence of human beings two hundred,000 years ago. The collection is a treasure trove of rare specimens, just like the Mammuthus meridionalis, an elephant that grew as massive as four meters excessive and weighed up to 20 heaps, giant hyenas.
