About Pallas Castle

Pallas Castle is a tower house and National Monument located in County Galway, Ireland. Pallas Castle is placed to the west of Pallas House, 2.8 km south of Tynagh, 1.6 km north of the Duniry River. The fort changed into constructed with the aid of the Burkes c. 1500. In 1574 it changed into owned by using Jonyck Fitzthomas Burke, but after the healing it surpassed to the Nugent Earls of Westmeath.

Near the tower at the west end, there may be a rectangular flanker, an 18th century malt residence and the stays of a large 17th century gabled house. Some buildings inside the southwest corner likely date from the 19th century. The tower is 5 storeys high, with the 4th storey vaulted. The thick end wall carries a tier of mural chambers and a winding stair. There are some of precise fireplaces preserved at the numerous floors. The fourth floor has appealing mullioned windows framed in arches. The roof becomes nevertheless thatched in the early part of the 20th century, the bottom being included with stone flags for safety.
