About Vellore
The city of Vellore is a beautiful city around 145 km from Chennai and is exceptionally famous for its heritage attractions and health institutions. Surrounded by a deep artificial moat the major attraction here is the 16th century Vellore Fort. Vellore had the privilege of being the capital of Pallava, Chola, Nayak, Maratha, Arcot Nawabs and Bijapur Sultan Kingdoms. Numerous temples and monuments form the major attraction of Vellore.

The city was built by Chola rulers in the 9th century and have been under the rule of both Hindu and Muslim rulers ever since. Vellore is considered a prominent destination for medical and technological education in India and the century old Christian medical college and hospital is located here. Vellore region is the top exporter of finished leather goods in the country. The Vellore leather accounts for more than 37% of the country's export of leather and leather-related products. Manufacturing and automobile are other major economic sectors.
