About Lamayuru Monastery

Lamayuru Monastery or Yuru Monastery is located in the Leh district. The monastery is believed to withstand for longer period and is considered to be the oldest monastery in Ladakh approx. in the period of either 10th Century or 11th Cenntury.

The monastery is also known as Yuru Gompa or shrine is much constructed like those of Tibetan Buddhist Shrines. The architecture of the place is very influential. Inside a sanctum or main hall is situated where many embroidery silk painting hangs. Caves and rooms are also located and carpets are kept keeping the look livelier. The place is now the home of many Tibetan monks. The place is certainly serene and filled with tranquility which soothes one’s mind.
