About KOYNA DAM
The development of this dam was finished in 1963 and is among the boss structural designing undertakings worked after the freedom of India. The catchment region of the Koyna Dam obstructs Koyna River and makes the Shivsagar Lake, which is about 50 km long. The spillway of the dam is situated at the middle and it has 6 outspread doors. The dam assumes a fundamental part of surge controlling in rainstorm season.
The Koyna Dam has survived a ton of quakes, even the damaging seismic tremor of Koyna Nagar in 1967 AD which came about into few splits. The splits were later repaired and openings were made inside to soothe the hydrostatic weights in the dam. In 2006, the dam was additionally created to fortify the spillway.
