About Government Rose Garden

The Government Rose Garden previously called the Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, Centenary Rose Park and Nootrandu Roja Poonga is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty city in Tamil Nadu, India at an altitude of 2200 meters. Ooty has a unique tropical mountain climate, therefore the lawn has the precise climatic situations for growing roses. Temperature variant is low and the rainfall distribution is uniform, which ends up in a protracted flowering season. The garden is visited with the aid of heaps of vacationers for the duration of the year, even in wintry weather whilst it is not the flowering season.

Initially, whilst the gardens were developed, 1,919 types of roses with 17,256 rose flowers have been planted. Today there are greater than 20,000 kinds of roses of 2,800 cultivars. The series of roses includes Miniature Roses, Ramblers, Hybrid Tea Roses, Yakimour, Polyanthas, Papagena, Floribunda and roses of uncommon colors together with green and black.
