Elephanta Island

Elephanta Island  is one of a number of islands in Mumbai Harbour, east of Mumbai, India. This island is a famous tourist vacation spot because of the island's cave temples, the Elephanta Caves, which have been carved out of rock. The island is without problems available by way of ferry from Mumbai, being about 10 kilometres from the south east coast of the island city. Boats leave daily from the Gateway of India, taking approximately an hour every manner. The tickets for these may be offered on the Gateway itself.

The first ferry leaves at 9 am and the ultimate at 2 pm. From the boat touchdown level on the island, a walkway leads to steps that pass as much as the well-known caves. There is also a slim-gauge toy train from the boat area on the dock to the bottom of the stairs main up to the caves. Along the path, hawkers sell souvenirs like necklaces, anklets, showpieces and keychains. There are also stalls to shop for food and drink. Small monkeys play along the edges of the route, now and again thieving gadgets from the hawkers, trashcans and travelers.
